CHECKLIST FOR OCI IN LIEU OF VALID PIO CARD
Attention: PIO card holders
Handwritten travel document (PIO cards) will be accepted as valid travel document along with valid foreign passport at all Indian Immigration Check Posts(s) till 31.12.2025 instead of earlier circulated deadline i.e. 31.12.2024.
This extension of timeline is subject to the condition that if in the meantime any deadline is notified by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) thereby making hand written PIO cards invalid, then PIO cardholders may have to obtain appropriate visa from Indian Missions/Posts.
It is to convey that no further extension will be given and all the PIO card holders with valid PIO cards as on 09.01.2015 are hereby advised to apply for conversion of PIO cards to OCI cards by 31.12.2025.
Applications for OCI in Lieu of valid PIO card can be filled and printed from the OCI application website: www.passport.gov.in/oci/welcome
Uploading of photograph, signature, and supporting documents by the applicants is now mandatory.
The following documents are required for OCI in lieu of valid PIO card:
- Application form, signed and dated
- 2 recent (colour) photographs 5cm x 5cm
- Copy of picture page of new Norwegian passport
- Copy of all pages in PIO card
- All copies to be self-attested (attested by parents if applicant is a minor)
- Politiattest from Norwegian authority in English and Apostilled.
- Letter/No Objection Certificate from the Government if the applicant is working in a local Government Organisation in English and Apostilled.
If the applicant is a minor, the following additional documents must also be submitted:
- Copies of picture pages of parents’ passports
- Copies of parents’ residence permits if parents are not Norwegian citizens
Additional documents required if change in personal particulars or address and/or loss of PIO card:
- Bostedsattest (Address proof in Norway), if address has changed since the PIO card was issued
- Bekreftelse på navneendring (Name-change papers) if name has changed and the new name is not endorsed in the PIO card.
- Original police report and copy of PIO, if PIO card has been lost/stolen
- Written application explaining of how the PIO card was lost/stolen/damaged.
The following documents have to be uploaded on the OCI application website:
- Photo/signature (same photo you are submitting with the application) (Guidelines for size and format can be found on the OCI website) Left thumb impression to be uploaded in case of minors who cannot sign
- Copy of picture page of new Norwegian passport
- Copy of picture page of PIO card
The Embassy reserves the right to call for additional documents as considered necessary.
Applicants should also carry their original documents of all the supporting documents (as mentioned in the checklist) for verification at the time of submission of OCI application at the Embassy. The supporting documents will be verified with the originals and the originals will be returned to the applicants immediately. The OCI applications would not be processed if the originals documents including passports are not submitted/sent for verification.
