STUDENT VISA
 
This category of visa allows you to travel to India to study at a university or technological institute, take part in an academic exchange program, follow a course in Yoga, Vedic culture, Indian systems of dance and music, professors or scholars intending to conduct research work in India and applicants intending to pursue internship in an Indian Company/Educational Institution/ NGO, Foreign Missions/ Posts and foreign government organizations in India.
 
SUB CATEGORIES OF STUDENT VISA:
• S-1: For higher education (including in South Asian University and Nalanda University), provisional student visa, for short term courses and those coming under Student Exchange Programme.
• S-2: For school education
• S-3: For studies in Yoga, Vedic culture and Indian systems of Music and Dance and Buddhist studies
• S-4: For Theological studies and for Missionary students
• S-5: For Research scholar, visiting Research faculty, research scholar on bilateral exchange programme, members of Botanical, Scientific, Anthropological etc expeditions
• S-6: For those coming for internship in India (including those coming under French VIE programme).
• S-1X/S-3X/S-5X: For dependents of those coming under S-1 and S-3 and S-5 visas.
Applicants intending to pursue internship in India are required to meet the following conditions:
• The Internship Visa will be granted at any time during the course of study; or immediately after completion of graduation/ post-graduation (masters level) but the duration of the internship should not be more than two years.
• Visa will be granted only on the basis of a letter from the Indian Company/Educational Institution/ NGO, Foreign Missions/ Posts in India and foreign government organizations concerned sponsoring the applicant for the internship programme and clearly indicating the period of internship.
• In case of internship in a Company, the applicant being sponsored for internship should draw a minimum remuneration of Rs.3.60 Lakhs (US $ 4,500) per annum.
• There will be no minimum salary limit in case of internship in Educational Institutions, NGOs, Foreign Missions/Posts in India and foreign government organizations.
• Earnings from internship of the applicant with Indian companies/Educational Institutions/ NGOs will be subject to the Indian Income Tax regulations.
• Under no circumstances, the intern will be allowed to take up employment in India immediately after completion of the internship programme.
• All applicants who want to do internship on their own and not arranged by any Institution from Norway should apply Business visa and not a student visa.
 
Instructions:
• e-visa facility is not available for student visa.
• Please apply for regular paper visa at the Embassy.
• In addition to the general instructions mentioned above, the following additional documents will be required:
• Admission letter signed by the Director, International Students Centre or by the International Students Advisor of a recognized Universities/institutions/ colleges in India along with duration of the academic course of study (scanned letter by e-mail will accepted)
• Proof of having deposited tuition fee
• Letter from the Norwegian Institute/Organisation/ School confirming that the applicant is a current student and is travelling to India for the Study Course (if applicable)
• Proof showing that the applicant has a minimum bank account balance of US $ 1000 if the duration of the course is less than one year and US $ 2000 if the duration of the course is more than one year, in order to meet his/her day to day expenses in India or a Letter from Lånekassa (in English).
• All applicants applying for a Student Visa need to write a declaration stating that, they will not be taking up any job/or will earn any Income during the study period in India. (Medical students need also to state that they will not be earning any money in India and will not be undertaking any surgical activities during the study period).
 
1. General requirements:
1.1 Passport to be valid for a minimum period of six months.
1.2 Duly filled in and signed application form to be submitted in person . Incomplete application will not be accepted.
1.4 The normal processing time for a Visa application is 8-10 weeks after the submission of requisite documents along with the Visa application form.
 
2. Documents Required
2.1. Visa Application form (No column to be left unfilled) duly signed along with recent photograph pasted at the designated space. Please also upload your recent photograph on the website while filling up the form.It is a mandatory requirement to ensure that your photo is 2 inch x 2 inch (51mm x 51mm) in size with white background for pasting in the application form. Photos which do not meet this specification will not be accepted.
2.2. Copy of the Passport and original for verification.
2.3. Original Letter of Admission from the Indian Institute / University
2.4. Proof of finances to cover traveling expenses to and fro from India and all expenditure in India in connection with his / her education and stay.
2.5. Bank Guarantee Certificate of minimum amount of NOK 1,50,000 or last 6 months of bank statement showing a minimum balance of NOK 1,50,000.
 
b.. Students after their arrival in India will be required to register in the nearest FRRO/FRO within 14 days from the date of arrival. Student Visa holders are required to open NRO account (Non Resident Ordinary) in India and the details of it needs to be furnished to FRROs/FROs during Visa extension.
 
Research Visa
1. Applicable for foreign research scholars who desire to undertake research in India.
2. Applicable for Professors, teachers and scholars who are invited as visiting faculty by an Indian Institute/University.
3. Applicable to the members of Botanical, Scientific, Anthropological etc. expeditions
4. The normal processing time for a Visa application is 8 weeks after the submission of requisite documents along with the Visa application form.
 
 Documents Required
1. Visa Application form (No column to be left unfilled) duly signed along with recent photograph pasted at the designated space. Please also upload your recent photograph on the website while filling up the form.It is a mandatory requirement to ensure that your photo is 2 inch x 2 inch (51mm x 51mm) in size with white background for pasting in the application form. 2. Copy of the Passport and original for verification.
3. Original Letter of Admission from the Indian Institute / University
4. Recommendation Letter from the Institute / University of the applicant
6. Six sets of duly completed Form for Research Visa
8. Bank Guarantee Certificate of minimum amount of NOK 1,50,000 or last 6 months of bank statement showing a minimum balance of NOK 1,50,000.
 
For Internship in India
 
Applicable for those who intend to pursue internship in Indian companies, Educational Institutions and NGOs.
 
The intern visa will be granted to those who have completed their graduation/post-graduation. The gap between the completion of graduation/post-graduation and the commencement of the internship should not be more than two year;
 
In case the internship is in a Company, the foreign national being sponsored by internship should draw a minimum remuneration of INR. 3.60 lakhs per annum.
The normal processing time for a Visa application is 8-10 weeks after the submission of requisite documents along with the Visa application form.
 
Documents Required
1. Visa Application form (No column to be left unfilled) duly signed along with recent photograph pasted at the designated space. Please also upload your recent photograph on the website while filling up the form.It is a mandatory requirement to ensure that your photo is 2 inch x 2 inch (51mm x 51mm) in size with white background for pasting in the application form. 2. Copy of the Passport.
3. A letter from the Indian company/educational institution/NGO concerned sponsoring internship programme which enter-alia includes the following information;
1)Name of company/institute/NGO in India

3)Phone/Fax
4)Email
5)Duration of internship in months
6) Annual remuneration to be received in INR
5. An undertaking from the company/organization concerned that they will ensure departure of the intern on completion of the internship;
6. Bank Guarantee Certificate of minimum amount of NOK 1,50,000 or last 6 months of bank statement showing a minimum balance of NOK 1,50,000.
 
Note: a. Interns after landing in India will have to register themselves with the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO)/ Foreign Registration Officer (FRO) concerned within 14 days of arrival in India if continuous stay is for more than 180 days.
